"Mary Anne Streeter was born in Delaware County, N.Y., 24 April 1835. In 1839 she moved to Pennsylvania with her parents and a few years later to Ohio. In 1856 [1857] she was united in marriage with Gordon Beard, and the next year they moved to Jasper County, Iowa, which has been home ever since. To this union two children, Byron [Bion] and Eva [Mary Eva] were born and the daughter died in infancy. [Mary Eva died as a teen]

Mr. Beard went out with the boys of '61, never to return. Later on Mrs. Beard was united in Marriage with James Stratton, who died about fifteen years ago, and they have four children: Elsie (Mrs. Albert Clapper), Henry, Joseph, and Edward were permitted to care for their mother until the end.

She died at the home of her son Joe, 2 May 1912. She had been a member of the M.P. Church 50 years, and was one of the pioneers who knew the joys and sorrows of frontier days and the rebellion.

Reverend William Williams, a member of the 40th Iowa, and a comrad of her brothers Edwin and Thomas Streeter, conducted the funeral service at Ashton Chapel at 2 pm. Interment was in Ashton Cemetery beside her loved ones. Besides her children, she leaves 24 grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers and many other relatives. Her sister, Mrs. Merryman Cox, of Colfax, was not able to attend the funeral, and the brothers Monroe of Nevada, Colo., and Wm. Streeter of Omaha, Nebraska, did not get there."

"Mrs. Ida Cox of Des Moines, who came to attend the funeral of her aunt , Mrs. Mary Stratton, last Friday and remained until Sunday for a visit with relatives and friends who are glad to know her health is improving. Her son Lawerence, is in Des Moines. The older son, Irvin lives in Washington, D.C. He is now happy over their first baby, Dorothy Clematis, who arrived two weeks ago."
