Mattie M. Lint dies Saturday; services Tuesday
NEWTON – Mrs. Mattie M. Lint, 81, of 601 S. 2nd Ave. W., a longtime resident of Newton; died Saturday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.
Survivors are two sons, Robert L. Trapp of Phoenix, Ariz., and William A. Trapp of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, William E. De Reus of Newton; and several nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister in infancy, two brothers, her second husband, Rex Lint, Sept 16, 1970
Mrs. Lint, who had been employed in the circulation department of The Newton Daily News for many years, had severed as hostess for the Three Quarter Century Club and had been secretary of the Happy Hearts Club, both clubs sponsored by the Daily News.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the 60 Plus Club, Royal Neighbors of America and Golden Age Club and was a former member of the Buena Vista and Palo Alto Granges.
She also had worked in the office at the Maytag Co. and at Globe Loan Co. and had taught in Jasper County rural schools.
The daughter of Arie A. and Clara Mae Cushman De Reus, she was born March 3, 1901 near Galesburg, attended Newton schools and was a 1918 graduate of Newton Community High School.
She was married to Harry L. Trapp June 17, 1922 in Council Bluffs and to Rex Lint Dec. 5, 1954 in Newton.
Mrs. Lint had resided in Newton since 1906, except for a short residency in Cherryvale, Kan., and Rock Island, Ill. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, October 18, 1982, page 9.
