On Oct. 30, 1939 all that was mortal of Anna Leech Woods was laid to rest in Corydon, Ia., cemetery by her six nephews, Wilbur and Jay Woods, Sherman and Fremont Woods and Clarence and Lloyd Woods.
The service was held in the Methodist church at Humeston, Ia., by the Rev. Hughes, pastor. The floral offerings were beautiful.
She was the eldest child of 10 children of John and Margaret Reed Leech and upon her fell the responsibility of helping care for the younger brothers and sisters. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She would have reached her 79th year on Dec. 17, 1939. She was a native of Ohio, was married in 1882, at the age of 31 years, and came to Jasper county, Iowa, with her husband. They located on a farm south of Kellogg and established a home where they formed many lasting friendships and where their two sons grew to manhood.
In 1909 they moved to Wayne county, Iowa, and lived near Corydon for a number of years.
The oldest son, Fred was married there and is the present clerk of court of Wayne county. Later they moved to a farm southwest of Humeston where Mr. Woods resides. The youngest son, Lon, remaining with him has been the main help and support of his parents in their declining years.
Her ancestors were Scotch Irish, covenanters, and early settlers in Pennsylvania. Her great grandfather, John Reed, served with distinction throughout the Revolutionary War. Her great grandmother, Margaret Fulton Leech, was a close relative of Robert Fulton of steamboat fame. From these backgrounds she attained her traits of character.
She leaves her husband, Henry Woods, two sons, Fred and Lon, two grandchildren; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren, four sisters – Frances Leech and Mrs. Jane Morrow of St. Petersburgh, Fla., Mrs. Florence Van Kimmel of Oak Park, Ill., Mrs. James Woods of Des Moines and one brother, George F. Leech of Steubenville, O., and many other relatives and friends.
