Death Claimed Mrs. Mary G. Lain Sunday Morning
Funeral Service Held Wednesday Morning From Cutter-Hartnett Funeral Chapel
Mrs. Mary G. Lain, 89, a pioneer resident of Jasper county died at 9 o’clock Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lena Blake, following a serious illness of the past two weeks of pneumonia.
Mrs. Lain had been in frail health for the past several years, and had been tenderly cared for by her daughter. Even though her physical strength had weakened, her mental alertness remained until the last, and she was ever to be found interested in the things of today even though unable to leave her home.
Mary Gertrude Angier, daughter of Joel and Mary Angier was born in Plattsville, Wis., Jan. 26th, 1848 and died Dec. 26th, 1937 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lena C. Blake, Colfax, Iowa. Had she lived another month, she would have been 0 years old.
On July 4th, 1868, she was married to Robert C. Lain in Atlanta, Ga., and two years later came to Iowa, residing in Jasper county 53 years, the last 15 years being with her daughter, Mrs. Blake in Colfax.
To them were born six children, three of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lena Blake of Colfax, Iowa, Mrs. Beulah Moler of Los Angeles, California and one son, Guy H. Lain of Denver. Colo., five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Lain was a member of the Eastern Star and the Christian Science Mother Church of Boston, Mass.
Her husband, who preceded her in death several years ago, was station agent at Newton and other points on the Rock Island and Illinois Central railroads.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning from the Cutter-Hartnett Funeral Chapel in Colfax, with Mrs. Helen Huntling of Newton, Reader, in charge of the service.
Burial was had in the Newton cemetery.
Pall Bearers were V. K. Robison, Chas. Decker, Otto Goodman, Clyde Shipley, Walter Williams and Geo. Lawhorn.
Mrs. R. G. Shipley and Mrs. Otto Goodman were in charge of the flowers.
