C. A. Chapman Dies of Heart Attack
Local Resident Dies this Morning After Short IllnessC. A. Chapman of 414 West Fourth street South, died at his home at 9:25 o’clock this morning as the result of a heart attack following a serious illness of only a few days. He had been in ailing health, however, for several months.
No funeral arrangements have been made but are awaiting word from out of town relatives. The Masonic lodge will be in charge.
Charles Alfred Chapman was born March 8, 1857 at Newton, O., the son of John O. and Parthenia Fenn Chapman. He lived for 35 years at points along the coast and was employed there as a salesman for Singer Sewing machines and Baldwin Pianos.
He came to Newton from Medord, Ore. In 1937 and has since made his home here. He was united in marriage to Miss Effie McLellan at Des Moines in 1908.
William B. Ogden, first mayor of Chicago and a man who was instrumental in putting through the Southern Pacific railway to Ogden, Utah is a great uncle of Mr. Chapmen. He survives.
Also surviving him are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Eaton of San Fransciso, a sister, Mrs. Harry Galusha of Phoenix, Ariz. And a brother, George Chapman of Newton.
He was a member of the Christian Science church, and of the Masonic lodge. ~ The Newton Daily News, May 29, 1931.
