Mrs. E. J. Griswold

Metz, Dec. 8. – Special.—Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock for Mrs. E. J. Griswold at her home near Brooklyn. Her death occurred on Monday at 11:50 o’clock after an illness of many weeks.

She was formerly Miss Elizabeth Cannon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cannon, and was born on May 27, 1855 in Jasper county. She grew to womanhood on a farm near Metz. She was married to Edward Griswold, who died in 1910.

She had two children, one of whom died in infancy and the other, Mrs. Helen McHarg; who with her family, had made her home with Mrs. Griswold for a number of years.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. McHarg, one grandson, George McHarg, two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Clement of Metz and Mrs. Oliver Wilson of Colfax, and one brother, Henry Cannon of Newton.

Those attending the funeral from the Metz community included Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Clement and son, Harry, and grandson, John Clement, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Emmack, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Twombly and family, Henry Cannon, Mrs. Clara Brock and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bell and family of Newton and Mrs. Oliver Wilson and sons, Howard and Earl of Colfax.

Burial was in the family lot in the Grinnell cemetery and the service was in charge of the Methodist minister of Guernsey. ~ The Newton Daily News, Dec. 8, 1930.
