Roy Callison Dies Thursday
Services SetRoy Callison, 84, 424 First St. N., lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Thursday evening at Embassy Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.
Survivors are a son, Russell James of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Delores Mesch of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Mrs. Barbara Britt of San Jose, Calif.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Webb of Curlew; a step granddaughter, Donna Webb of Curlew; seven grandchildren, including Roger Callison of Des Moines and nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Otto Callison of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Allfree Callison in 1940; his second wife, Olive Tight Callison April 5, 1969; a daughter, Lois, a grandson; a brother; and a sister.
Mr. Callison, who originally farmed in the Metz community had been employed by the Maytag Co. for approximately 20 years before being employed by the City of Newton street department.
The son of Claiborn and Betty Carrier Callison, he was born May 3, 1886 in the Metz community. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 22, 1971
