Conduct Amendt Rites Friday
Services in Newton Followed by Rites at St. John’s Church
Funeral services for Arthur Amendt, 47, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Morgan funeral home, followed by final rites at St. John’s Evangelical church north of Newton.
Rev. Fredrick D. Boldt, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran church, delivered the funeral sermons at both services.
Dr. W. H. Blancke, pastor emeritus of the Newton church, assisted with both rites and Rev. John J. Ruhl of St. John’s church assisted with those at his church.
Music for Rites
Richard Toedt sang, “Lead Kindly Light,” at the funeral home and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” at the church. He was accompanied by Mrs. Toedt.
Burial was in St. John’s cemetery, with six brothers serving as pall bearers. They were Ernest J., Gustave J., Edward H., Charles C., Alfred R. and Richard F. Amendt.
The flowers were arranged by Ruby Achtemeier and Mrs. Vern Hanson.
Died Tuesday
Mr. Amendt died Tuesday evening at the Skiff hospital following a lingering illness.
A native of Marshall county, he had lived in Jasper county nine years and was employed for four years in the Maytag factory, until his health failed.
Surviving relatives include his wife; five children, Rosa, Wanda, Gilbert, LeRoy and Lester, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Kracht of Peterson, Ia., and six brothers, Ernest J., Gustave J., Edward, Charles and Richard Amendt all living in Marshall county, and Alfred Amendt of Manson, Ia.
