John R. Richmond

John R. Richmond, 50, of 2305 E. 19th St. N., No, 15 E, a resident of Newton for the past seven years, died Tuesday morning, June 21, 1994, at Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Ernest Braida will conduct services. Cremation will follow services. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday at the church and wake services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials to the Commission for the Blind in Des Moines or the American Diabetes Association will be accepted. Reese Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara J.; a daughter, Deana Ware of Des Moines; a sister, Judy McDivitt of Yale; and his father, Jack of Jackson, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Richmond, a self-employed bookkeeper, was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Blind Support Group of Newton.

The son of Jack S. and Thelma Wirtjers Richmond, he was born Aug. 4, 1943 in Jackson, Minn., was a 1961 graduate of Sac City High School and was graduated from Humboldt Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn.

He was married to Barbara Mayer Oct. 21, 1987 in Iowa City.

Mr. Richmond had resided in Des Moines before moving to Colfax where he lived for 10 years prior to moving to Newton.
