Dorothy M. Knittle

MONROE - Funeral services for Dorothy M. Langheim Knittle, 79, a resident of Monroe since 1985, were held Saturday, July 3, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.

Father Ernie Braida, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, assisted by Vince Waltz, conducted services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Wake services were held Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Knittle died Thursday, July 1, 1993, at the Martha Tennant home in Monroe.

Survivors are a son, Robert, of Des Moines; a daughter, Anna Mae (Mrs. Wayne) Shannon of Monroe; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude Crowe of Tinley Park, Ill.; and a brother, Robert Langheim of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, John William, a grandson, Patrick Shannon, two great-grandsons and two brothers.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.

The daughter of William and Anna Trumble Langheim, she was born March 10, 1914 in Waukon.

She was married to John Knittle in 1931 in Dubuque.

Mrs. Knittle resided in Withee, Wis., for 10 years prior to moving to Monroe and before that time in Des Moines. She also was employed in a button factory in Lansing and also operated a restaurant in St. James, Minn.
