Alta Klinkhammer

Funeral services for Mrs. Herman (Alta A.) Klinkhammer, 86, a resident of Newton for 40 years, were held today, Aug. 19, at the Reese Chapel.

The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, assisted by Vincent Waltz, conducted the services. Burial was in the veterans’ section of Newton Union Cemetery.

She died Saturday morning, August 17, 1985, at the Embassy Manor.

Survivors are a son Elmo Rea of Marshalltown, a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Donna) McDonald of Des Moines, a grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, John Rea, in 1928; her second husband, Herman Klinkhammer in 1975, and a sister.

Mrs. Klinkhammer, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, had resided at the Manor for 10 years.

The daughter of James T. and Margaret Black Osborn, was born Nov. 8, 1898 in Steady Run Township in Keokuk County and was educated in What Cheer.

She was married in 1920 to John Rea and to Herman Klinkhammer in 1940.
