Succumbs At Local Hospital of Heart Disease And Complications

Mrs. Nettie Allfree Vanatta, 78 year old member of a well-known Newton pioneer family, died late Tuesday afternoon at Skiff Memorial hospital of pneumonia and complications following a heart attack.

Mrs. Vanatta had been admitted as a patient to the local hospital about three weeks ago.

The widow of C. F. Vanatta, she is survived by two daughters, Irene Vanatta who is expected to arrive today from Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Mrs. Dorothy Blanchaine of Waterloo, Ia. Other immediate surviving relatives include a sister, Mrs. Howard Newell of near Newton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry B., Clifford and George Allfree, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Baldwin.

Born in 1864, Mrs. Vanatta came to Newton in early childhood where she spent the greater part of her life. The Vanatta home is located at 423 East East Second street North.
