Mrs. Callison Dies Wednesday

Newton Woman Dies Wednesday Afternoon at Age of 75 Years

Mrs. James E Callison, long time resident of Jasper county, died Wednesday afternoon at her home near Newton, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Callison would have observed her seventy-sixth birthday anniversary next Saturday.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the Morgan funeral home by Rev. H. LeRoy Kinser, pastor of the First Christian church. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.

Mrs. Katherine Aillaud Callison was born June 19, 1861, in Scott county, Iowa, the daughter of William and Katherine Aillaud. She was one of a family of seven children, three of whom have preceded her in death.

She came with her parents to Jasper county in the fall of 1867, and was married to James E. Callison, a native of this county, April 2, 1884.

Mr. and Mrs. Callison spent all of their married life in and near Newton. Two children were born to the union, a son, Walter of Des Moines, and a daughter, Gertrude, who preceded her mother in death.

Mrs. Callison was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry Aillaud of Newton, and two sisters, Mrs. Gardner Dodge of Newton and one, who died in infancy.

She was a member of Newton Chapter No. 100, of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving relatives are her husband; the son, Walter, of Des Moines; one grandchild Jimmy Callison of Des Moines, and three brothers, Louis Aillaud and Will Aillaud of Newton and Fred Aillaud. ~ Newton Daily News, June 17, 1937, page 1.
