J. Callison Dies Today

Succumbs Early This Morning at Local Hospital; Masonic Rites Monday

James E. Callison, 88-year-old retired Jasper county farmer, died at the Skiff Memorial hospital this morning at 12:55 o’clock.

Mr. Callison, the last living child of Preston and Amelia Callison was born March 7, 1856 at Metz, one of a family of four children.

On April 2, 1884, he married Katherine Aillaud, of Newton.

He is preceded in death by one daughter, Gertrude, who died in 1918, his wife, and a sister, Mrs. James Veach, and two brothers, George Henry and Anderson Callison.

He is survived by one son, Walter of Des Moines.

The Masonic rites will be held at the Morgan Funeral home Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock with the Rev. F. D. Boldt in charge.

Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and for many years of the Newton Daily News Three-Quarter Century Club. ~ Newton Daily News, June 16, 1944, page 1.
