Allen Trimble Taylor was born near Germantown in Preble County, Ohio, August 1, 1829, and died January 12, 1914, at the age of 84 years 5 months and 12 days. He removed with his parents from Ohio to Indiana at an early date and lived there until a young man.

In 1854 he was united in marriage to Mary J. Morris of Hagerstown, Indiana, and the same year the young couple came overland to Iowa, settling in Monroe where the family has since resided.

Nine children were born to this union: Mrs. E. C. Andrew and Mrs. John Lorenzen of Dexter, Iowa. C. L. Taylor of Parkville, Missouri, W. S. Taylor of Everett, Washington, G. M. Taylor of Colfax, Iowa and Frances and Rose Taylor of Monroe, Iowa.
A daughter, Mabel, died in childhood and Edward a few years ago in Des Moines and another died in 1877. Also a sister and a brother remain, Ms. Mary Hedrick of Mitchellville and Columbus Taylor of Fairmount.

Mr. Taylor was one of the earliest settlers of this community. While not in the years of his life, yet in the years of his residence here he was the oldest. His death marks the passing of another of those whose labor in the earlier days made possible the great development of today.

The funeral, in charge of Rev. C. H. Hiller, of the Methodist Church, was held from the home which had been his for 47 years.

The remains were then laid away in the cemetery to await the resurrection.
