Flonnie Thomas

Grinnell-Flonnie Thomas, 102, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Friday, Dec 7, at Mayflower Health Care Center.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
Friends may call today at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Mayflower Home.
The daughter of George Washington and Eliza Ann Abbott Thompson, she was born Aug. 12, 1899, in Eubanks, KY. She was raised and educated in Eubanks and moved with her family to Jasper County in 1911. On March 12, 1917, she married Charles M. Thomas in Newton. They farmed in the Bethel area in Rock Creek Township in Jasper County; in 1943, they moved to their farm south of Malcom. She moved to the Mayflower Home in 1993.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Bethel Church and later Malcom United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence of Grinnell; two daughters, Lillian Leadmon of Newton and Dorothy Thomas of Ankeny; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, two daughters and six brothers and sisters
