Funeral services will be at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Morgan Funeral Home in Newton, Rev. L. Churchill Austin will officiate. Burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery.

In Log Cabin

More familiarly known as “Uncle Charley,” Mr. Westbrook was a pioneer resident of Jasper county, moving here with his parents, Abram and Livonia Swetland Westbrook, in 1864 when he was only two years old. He had been born in Nov. 2, 1862. The family settled in a log cabin in the Metz area.

He married Harriet L. Morgan of Monroe in October, 1885. For many years he was a partner in
The Miller and Westbrook dry goods store on the west side of the square. He was also associated in a dry goods store at Oskaloosa for several years.

Oil Station

In 1919, he and Fred Evans started an oil station on First avenue East, which is presently the Deep Rock station. He operated the station until he retired several years ago, but still retained an ownership interest.

Mr. Westbrook’s wife and their one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Imogene) Zickel of Kellogg, who died last June 8, preceded him in death. Survivors include one brother, W. S. Westbrook, of near Newton, and nieces and nephews. ~ The Newton Daily News, May 17, 1948, Page 1.
