Doris L. Orr, 98, of Baxter, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Baxter Health Care Center in Baxter.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Memorials to the Baxter Education Foundation may be left at the church during the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Doris, the daughter of Vernon and Lennie (Koon) Pershall, was born on Dec. 20, 1915, in Clyde. She grew up in Clyde and graduated from Mingo High School. Doris was united in marriage with John W. Orr on April 9, 1935, in Perry. They made their home in Newton for three years before moving to Baxter. Doris was a homemaker, farmer’s wife, and worked at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter and a card club. Following John’s death in 1983, Doris enjoyed taking bus trips. She was also an avid reader and loved the outdoors, where she was able to name every tree, flower, and bird.

Doris is survived by her son, John E. (Judy) Orr of Baxter; daughter, Bonnie Jo (Jerry) Loupee of Savannah, Ga.; her six grandchildren, Paul Loupee of St. Simons Island, Ga., Colette (Dan) Kunkel of Baxter, Michelle (Jon) Northrup of Baxter, John (Julie) Loupee of Poole, Ga., Christopher (Melany) Orr of Baxter, and Nicholle (Jeff) Funke of Alpharetta, Ga.; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Helen Bucklin, LaVon Hunter, Joyce Lester and Mary Lou Freland; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; two brothers, Raymond and John Pershall; and two sisters, Bessie Patterson and Jean Milligan. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
