Mrs. Rose Short Dies Yesterday

Death of Local resident Results from Broken Hip and Complications

Mrs. Rose Short, widow of the late Edward Short of this city, died last evening at 5:18 o’clock at the Skiff Memorial Hospital as the results of complications which developed from a broken hip which she suffered about four weeks ago. She was 63 years of age.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral Home with Dr. George C. Williams, pastor of The Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Mrs. Short is well known to people of Newton and the neighboring vicinity, having been born in Jasper County and spending practically her entire life here. Before her marriage she was Miss Rose Rexroat.

She was married in Princeton, Mo., a number of years ago to Edward Short of Newton, a carpenter by trade, and he preceded her in death in November of last year.

She is survived by eight children, Mrs. P. W. Canfield of Colfax, Mrs. George Lust of Reasnor, Mrs. Glen McKee of Newton, Mrs. Ed Lust of Monroe, Bert Rexroat of Iowa City, Merrel Rexroat of Prairie City, Kamp Rexroat of Newton and Mrs. Kate Noon of Monroe. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Thur 17 July 1930

Mrs. Rose Short

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose short were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral home with Dr. George C. Williams of The Congregational Church officiating. Burial was in the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Music was furnished by Fred Hough and the pallbearers were Walter Rexroat, Richard Rexroat, Glen Noon, Leland Lust, Clarence Lust and Clyde McKee.

Mrs. Rose Rexroat Short, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Rexroat, was born in Jasper County on June 29, 1866 and has resided in this community during the greater part of her life. She died at the Skiff Memorial Hospital on July 16, 1930.

While visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Glenn McKee, Mrs. Short fell on June 24 and broke her hip. She was taken to the hospital here where she submitted to a double operation. Complications resulted which caused her death.

Mrs. Short was married to Edward Short in 1914 and he preceded her in death in November of last year.

She is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Mrs. P. W. Canfield of Colfax, Mrs. George Lust of Reasnor, Mrs. Glen McKee and Kemper Rexroat of Newton, Mrs. Ed Lust and Mrs. Albert Noon of Monroe, Bert Rexroat of Iowa City and Merrell Rexroat of Prairie City. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Sat 19 July 1930.
