Agnes M. DeBruyn, 89, of Newton died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday. Memorials in Agnes’ name may be left at the funeral home.

Agnes was born on April 27, 1924 in Belfast, Ireland. She met and married her husband, Lawrence DeBruyn while he was serving his country in WWII. After the war, they returned to Lawrence’s home in Newton, Iowa. Agnes worked for many years in the filing department at Newton Manufacturing. After retiring, she returned to work at Skiff Medical Center in the laundry department. Agnes was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed knitting and going on walks.

Those left to honor Agnes’ memory are her son, Bob (Terry) DeBruyn of Newton; daughter, Lucille (Jack) Brisel of Lake Placid, Florida; her grandchildren, Jeff (Kari) Brisel, Alicia (Nathan) McCloy, Jennifer Brindle, and Aaron Anderson; great-grandchildren, Chase, Logan, Colin, Madilyn, and Noah; and her brother, Robert (Minnie) Morrison of Belfast, Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence DeBruyn; two sisters, Sally Ward and Lily Kells; and a brother, Thomas Morrison. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
