Maxine, the daughter of George and Ella Griebel Loupee, was born on April 21, 1921 in Malaka Township north of Newton. She graduated from high school and continued her education to become a country school teacher. Maxine was united in marriage with Lorne Deppe on August 19, 1956 at St. John’s Church of Christ. Maxine later was a substitute teacher before becoming a stay-at-home mom to raise Rusty. Later, she retired as a salesclerk in Grinnell.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kellogg and the Barrett Homemakers’ Club and a past member of the St. John’s Church of Christ. She volunteered at the Kellogg Historical Museum and spent much of her free time gardening, listening to the radio, going to the races, going out to eat, and going on “deer” drives.

In 2011, Maxine moved to the Grandview Heights healthcare in Marshalltown. Prior to that, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law in rural Kellogg. Those left to honor Maxine’s memory are her son, Rusty (Kerri) Deppe of rural Kellogg; her grandchildren, Aaron of Iowa City and Blake of Toledo; her great-granddaughter, Avelynn; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Deppe of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lorne Deppe in 1990; siblings, Robert Loupee, Myrtle Campell, and George Loupee Jr.; a brother-in-law, Maynard Deppe; and a sister-in-law, Viola Paulson.
