Services Held Jan. 18

Funeral services for Shirley Eddy DeJong, 57, a longtime resident of Baxter, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at The Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ.

The Rev. Harry Lake, pastor of the Marshalltown Congregational United Church of Christ, conducted services. Burial was in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Mrs. DeJong died Wednesday, January 15, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are her husband, Darrell; two sons, Martin and Jeffrey, both of Baxter; two daughters, Vicki (Mrs. Mark) DeKock of Mingo and Nancy (Mrs. Robert) Derichs of Des Moines; her mother, Virginia Eddy of Baxter; and a grandson.

Also surviving are a brother, William Eddy of Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho, and two sisters, Kerry (Mrs. Steven) Balbiani of Baxter and Lori O’Hara of Colfax.

Mrs. DeJong had worked at Principal Insurance in Des Moines for the past seven years and prior to that had been employed at a Baxter restaurant.

She was a member of the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ.

The daughter of Howard and Virginia Vestal Eddy she was born March 16, 1934 at Centerville.

She was raised and educated in Baxter and was a 1953 graduate of Baxter Community High School.

She was married to Darrell DeJong Oct. 18, 1953 in Baxter. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Thurs 23 Jan 1992.
