James R. Farver of Newton died of a heart attack Wednesday at Skiff Medical Center there. The body was cremated, and graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Union Chapel Cemetery near Ira.

Mr. Farver was born in Prairie City and lived there and in Colfax before moving to Newton in 1942. He was a retired pressman with the Newton Daily News, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655 and United Church of Ira.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean; five sons, Dennis of Topeka, Kan., Steve of Chicago and Tom, Jeff and Mark, all of Newton; two sisters Eileen Dunbar and Ruth Ryan, both of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:55 p.m. Sunday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Chapel Cemetery in care of the funeral home. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News 9 May 2001
