Cody Tyler Bennett August 2, 1992 - January 19, 2014 "Your acts of compassion, loyalty and friendship will never be forgotten." Taken from his family and friends far too soon, Cody arrived in this world 21 years ago, weighing in at 2 pounds 9 ounces, a fighter from the word go. He was a miracle baby to his loving parents Deborah and Bruce Bennett of San Rafael. Cody was loved deeply by his family, and was an easy child to love - seeming to always have a smile on his face. He was an eager and happy child, easy to get along with, with seemingly never a cloud on the horizon. Cody attended Sun Valley Elementary School, Davidson Middle School, and graduated from San Rafael High School in 2010. He excelled in academics, played Varsity Baseball and Basketball and the tenor saxophone in the San Rafael Jazz Band. Cody was known as being genuine, easy going, a friend, a teammate and a brother. All who loved him will miss his quick smile and kind heart. Cody truly lived life to the fullest. At the University of Oregon Cody majored in Applied Economics and Business where he was due to graduate this June. He loved being a Duck, and was excited about his life and the possibilities his future held. He and his extended family had just spent time together during the summer of 2013, a blessing his surviving family are extremely grateful for. After working hard to graduate in 4 years, he planned to travel through Italy with his friends this summer. His father Bruce and his brother Mark were eager to welcome him into the family business where his skills would have been a wonderful asset. Throughout his life Cody was in service to others. He was part of the leadership team at San Rafael High. Summers were spent as a counselor at a Baseball Camp, then he became a valued lifeguard at Terra Linda Pool where he also taught children swimming. Cody's passions were basketball, baseball, snowboarding, wake boarding and doing "flips". The Giants, 49ers, and Warriors were all favorites. He even got to come home for a World Series Game. Tahoe and Shasta were favorite spots - a true California boy. Being with his friends was super important. He loved to travel, and with his parents experienced countries in Europe, Australia, Mexico and Canada many summers of his life. Cody never forgot a friend. He was loyal, great fun and treated everyone with kindness. His quick smile and kind heart will be missed by all who knew and love him.

Cody is survived by his parents, Bruce and Deborah Bennett, his brothers Blake and Mark Bennett and sister-in-law Shannon of San Rafael, his grandmother, Margaret Deskin of Des Moines, Iowa, his uncle Mark Deskin of Montrose, CO and cousins Erin, Cole and Taylor Deskin, and a host of best friends, near and far. His grandfather Harold Deskin of Newton, Iowa, and his grandparents John and Jorja Bennett of San Francisco preceded Cody in death. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke Presbyterian Church in San Rafael, 10 Bayview Drive, on March 1st at 3:00 PM. In lieu of fresh flowers, living plants or donations can be made in Cody's memory to the Cody Bennett Memorial Fund, at Umpqua Bank, 1200 Fifth Ave., San Rafael, 94901, for a San Rafael High School Scholarship in his name.
