Old Resident of County is Dead

Mrs. Eliza Murdoch, Jasper County resident for the past 50 years, died at her home at 521 S. 5th Ave. W., this morning following an illness of the past five weeks. She was 71 years of age.

Funeral services will be conducted here at the Murdoch Funeral Home on Friday afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. George C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Eliza Conn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davey Conn, was born on December 7, 1858 in Ayrshire, Scotland, and came to the United States when a young woman. She's lived some time with her parents in the East, and about 15 years ago came to Jasper County, where she has since made her home.

She was United in marriage on February 23, 1888 to William Murdoch, Sr., at Newton and the couple settled on a farm in the Palo Alto neighborhood where they became one of the prominent families in that vicinity.

In 1912 Mrs. Murdoch moved to Newton and for the past 18 years has made her home in this city.

Her husband preceded her in death and she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. M. Beintema of near Newton, by two grandchildren, a grandson at home and a granddaughter, Claire Johnson of Newton, one sister, Mrs. Agnes Murdoch of Los Angeles, four brothers, John and James Conn of California and Robert and Ed Conn of Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Wed 21 May 1930

Funeral Services are Held for Mrs. Murdoch

Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Murdoch funeral home for Mrs. Eliza Murdoch, 71, who died at her home here Wednesday morning. Rev. George C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational Church was in charge and burial was in the Palo Alto cemetery.

Mrs. Murdoch had been ill for the past five weeks and she survived by one daughter, two grandchildren, one sister and for brothers. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Wed 23 May 1930
