Elmer C. Starrett Dies on Sunday; Services Tuesday

Elmer C. Starrett, 81, of 622 S. 3rd Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Sunday morning at the Heritage Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Phillip Friedeman, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Memorial contributions to the Congregational United Church of Christ will be accepted. They may be left at the church or at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, John, of Newton; and two granddaughters, Kelly and Karen Starrett, both of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother and a sister.

Mr. Starrett was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, 50-year member of the Elks Lodge No. 1270, member of the Newton Masonic Lodge No. 59 AF and AM and the American Legion Post No. 111.

Mr. Starrett, who served in the Army during World War I, retired in 1961 from the Maytag Co. where he had been an accountant.

The son of John and Harriett Starrett, he was born July 14, 1896 in Newton and attended Newton schools.

He was married to Ruth Parsons Nov. 15, 1924 at Nevada. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Monday, January 30, 1978.
