Amber M. Stow, Former Resident, Dies; Rites Set

Mrs. Perry (Amber M.) Stow, 79, of 1801 20th St., Ames, a former resident of Newton, died Sunday in Ames.

Graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Veterans Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

The Phillip Friedman, pastor of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Helser Chapel of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames.

Stevens Memorial Chapel of Ames is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions for the TTT camp for underprivileged girls will be accepted. Memorials may be left at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Galen (Patricia) Jackson of Rock Rapids; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent Swihart and Arthur Swihart, both of Newton; and a sister, Beulah Streeter of Swarthmore, pa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Perry L. Stow in 1953; her parents; a son, Robert; and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Stow, a former member of the Newton School Board, had been a national officer in the TTT and was a 50-year member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

She had served as housemother at Iowa State University in Ames for 15 years until her retirement in 1969.

The daughter of Eli and Ann Deutsch, she was born Dec. 26, 1898 in Newton and was graduated from Newton Community High School and Iowa State University.

She was married Aug. 29, 1921 in Newton. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Monday, January 30, 1978.
