Berniece Spegal Services to Be Conducted Friday

MONROE – Funeral services for Berniece Spegal, 78, a resident of Monroe since 1957, and former resident of Baxter, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, west of Monroe.

The Rev. Oren Reger, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Willowbrook Cemetery in Fisher, Ill.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Survivors are a son, Michael of Sigourney; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Joyce) Beard of Monroe and Mrs. Art (Sandra) Frederickson of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lorean Keene of Hoopeston, Ill., Mrs. Dale (Zella) Sheets of Tavares, Fla., and Mrs. Arnold (Mae) Allan of Decatur, Ill.; and two brothers, Donald Hartley of Carthage, Ill.; and Melvin Hartley of Strafford, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, a son and a grandson.

Mrs. Spegal, a longtime employe of Younkers Store in Des Moines, was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and the Eureka Rebekah Lodge No. 52.

The daughter of John and Lovey Ann Cornwell Hartley, she was born Oct. 23, 1909 in Lavonia, Ind.

She was married Dec. 24, 1929 in Illinois. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Thursday, January 26, 1978
