Stewart W. Faust, 56, Maytag Vice President, Dies Tuesday
Stewart William Faust, 56, of 802 S. 14th Ave. W., vice president of research and development for the Maytag Co., died Tuesday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Private family services and burial will be held Friday morning. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral [Home] after 7 p.m. today until 9 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions to the Newton Memorial Scholarship Fund will be accepted. They may be sent to Box 5, Newton, 50208, or left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Joy; two sons, Jon of Des Moines and Robert of Grand Forks, N.D.; two grandsons, Erik and Joel Faust, both of Des Moines; a granddaughter, Amy Faust of Grand Forks, N.D.; his mother, Mrs. John Faust of Creston; a brother, George Faust of Creston; and two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Breta) Kinkade of Creston and Mrs. Kenneth (Ellen) Thayer of Council Bluffs.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Faust, who spent his entire professional career at the Maytag Co., started in 1948 as a design engineer, became a project engineer in 1952 and chief project engineer in 1955 and was named assistant director of research and development in 1972.
He became director of research in early 1974 and later that year was elected vice president.
Mr. Faust was a member of the First Lutheran Church where he served on the council and had served as superintendent of the Sunday school.
Mr. Faust, who was honored in 1970 for his many services to the Newton YMCA, had served as president, first vice president and on the YMCA board for a number of years.
Mr. Faust, who was active in the Maytag Management Club, was a member of the board of directors of the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Scoutmaster for Troop No. 354, a member of the Citizens for Better Education Committee and had served on the citizens’ committee for the school bond issue on 1972 and was active in t he Skiff Memorial Hospital addition fund drive in 1954.
Mr. Faust had served during World War II with the John Deere Ordinance Brigade in the European Theater.
The son of John Axel and Annie Moberg Faust, he was born June 3, 1921 in Husgvarna, Sweden, attended Creston schools and was graduated from Iowa State University in Ames.
He was married to Joy Mac McAllister June 12, 1948 at Creston.
