Viva Mae Vardo

Colfax - Viva Mae Vardo, 82, of Colfax, died Friday, Dec. 31, at Luther Park Care Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax with the Rev. Mark Engelhardt, chaplain at Luther Park Care Center, officiating. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon Tuesday at the funeral home in Colfax where family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.

The daughter of Fordyce J. and Lida Ethel (Mitchell) Rhoades, she was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Clinton. She married Bert Thomas Vardo June 6, 1953, in Des Moines.

A longtime resident of Colfax, Mrs. Vardo was employed as a machine operator and inspector by the Maytag Company in Newton for 30 years. She was a member of the UAW.

Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Janice Miller of Newton, Russell and Marie Miller of Altoona, Lloyd and Janice Miller of Earlham and Clifford Miller of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and several brothers and sisters. ~ Newspaper unnamed, but possibly The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa, or The Newton (IA) Daily News.
