Jennie Nugteren Dies on Monday; Rites Wednesday

PRAIRIE CITY – Mrs. John (Jennie) Nugteren, 85, of Prairie City died Monday at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City.

The Rev. Gerald Essenberg, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie city.

Memorial contributions to the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella will be accepted.

Survivors are two sons, Peter of Prairie City and Marvin of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Atkin of Pella; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, William Louwsma of Oskaloosa; and a sister, Mrs. M. (Winnie) Veenendaal of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two infant sons, five sisters, two brothers and a grandson.

Mrs. Nugteren was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City.

The daughter of Jacob and Effie Vander Schel Louwsma, she was born Mar. 1, 1892 in The Netherlands.

She was married Nov. 10, 1911 at Prairie City. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Tuesday, January 17, 1978
