Chester Thompson Dies on Monday; Services Friday
Charles A. Thompson, 67, of Rt. 1, Newton, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Monday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ian Hoover, pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John’s Church, north of Newton.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are his wife, Myrtle; two sons, Jerald of Newton and Dennis of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Judy) Allspach of Bevier, Mo., and Mrs. Larry (Donna) Harger of Newton; 11 grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Maynard (Minerva) Haydock of Marshalltown, Mrs. Lial Koch of Preston and Mrs. Forest (Marian) Adair of Shell Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ and the Jasper County Farm Bureau.
The son of Martin and Julia Fretty Thompson, he was born Jan. 15, 1911 at Milan, Mo., attended Swea City Schools and Waldorf Academy, where he participated in athletics.
He was married to Myrtle Loupee Sept. 21, 1940 at Trenton, Mo. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Thursday, January 17, 1978
