William Bean, Former Newton Resident, Dies

William Bean, 70, of Centerville, a former resident of Newton, died Friday evening at the Centerville hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the First Lutheran Church in Centerville. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery.

Johnson Funeral Home in Centerville is handling arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two daughters; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. M. G. Addicks and Mrs. Kenneth Young, both of Newton, and Mrs. Fern Cramer of Wellman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister.

Mr. Bean, who was employed for a short time in the advertising department of The Newton Daily News, worked as advertising manager for the Daily Iowegian for 12 years before joining the operation of Stevens Drug Store in Centerville. He retired in 1972.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bean, he was born in 1907 in Newton, was a 1926 graduate of Newton Community High School and attended Coe College at Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Bean was a member of Newton Community High School’s state champion basketball team.

He was married to Dorothy Anderson in 1932 at Centerville. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Monday, January 9, 1978.
