Lou A. Damman, 80, Dies on Thursday; Services Monday
Lou A. Damman, 80, of 1420 1st St. N., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Thursday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. R. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist temple will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Saturday.
Survivors are a wife, Blanche; a son, Paul of La Crescenta, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lou and Ronald of California and Michael of Spain; a great-grandson, James Paul of California; two brothers, August of Laurel and Robert of Newton; a step-sister, Mrs. Emma Groth of Marshalltown; and his step-mother, Mrs. Sadie Damman of Newton.
The Dammons are the godparents of Lane, Doris, Michelle, David and Julie Ann Hansen of Zwigle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Fred, Will, Herman and Harry; and a sister, Nora.
Mr. Damman, a member of the Newton Baptist Temple, owned the Damman’s Antique Shop and was a retired farmer and sheep raiser.
The son of August F. and Reke Schnathorst Damman, he was born Oct. 10, 1897 north of Newton.
He was married to Blanche Mackerman Feb. 14. 1922 at the Wittemberg Church, north of Newton. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Friday, June 6, 1978.
