Ronald Lee “Ron” Holder, 68, of Newton, died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013.

The family will greet friends with a coffee time from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The visitation will begin with a short prayer service and time of remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Ron, the son of Lester Charles and Lucille Maxine (Berry) Holder, was born on March 13, 1945 in Newton, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Ron was united in marriage with Bonnie Jean Williams on March 12, 1967 in Newton. They were blessed with two children: Ronda and Todd.

Ron was a welder and had worked at the Vermeer Company in Pella, Iowa since 1995. He was a member of the American Legion Post 210 and a life member of the VFW Post 1655. Ron enjoyed helping on the Machin Family farm, fishing and hunting, NASCAR races, cheering on Mark Martin, and watching John Wayne movies. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Those left to honor Ron’s memory are his wife, Bonnie of Newton; children, Ronda (Nate) Olipas of Ewa Beach, HI and Todd (Sarah) Holder of Newton; his grandchildren; Ciara Holder, Gabe (Autumn) Olipas, Nick Olipas, Emma Olipas, Marc DeBruyn, Kristina DeBruyn, and Maddison Collins; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Olipas and Aurora Olipas; his siblings, Raymond (Mindy) Holder of Brooklyn, Rachal (Brian) Porath of Grinnell, Pat (Frank) Biehn of Marshalltown, Lonnie (Deb) White of Brooklyn, Darla (Rick) Brandon of Marengo, Bob (Mary) White of Brooklyn, and Donna (Ken) Kling of California; many nieces nephews and friends, including Lloyd and Dianna Machin and their family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Schulz; father, Lester Charles Holder; second mother, Estelle (White) Holder; brothers, Charles Lester “Chuck” Holder and Lowell Carter; and sister, Dora (White) Waterbeck. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
