Former Newton Resident Dies In Ariz. Crash
A former resident of Newton, Barry I. White, 30, of Tucson, Ariz., died early Saturday morning in a Tucson hospital of injuries suffered in a truck-car accident a few hours earlier.
According to information received by relatives in Newton, Mr. White’s car was struck by a truck which allegedly did not stop at a red light. The accident occurred in the Tucson area.
It also was reported that manslaughter charges had been filed against the driver of the truck.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral home in Newton.
The Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Anna White of Newton; seven brothers, Robert James, Junior and Frank, all of Newton, Charles of Waterloo, Bruce White of Clinton and Les De Geus of Santa Maria, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Talbot of Newton, Mrs. Chuck (Louise) Janes of White City, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. White was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
The son or John R. and Anna Blunt White, he was born May 14, 1948 at Iowa City and attended Newton schools.
Mr. White, who formerly resided in California, had resided in Tucson between six months and a year.
