Donald Auestad, Former Newton Resident, Dies
Funeral services for Donald M. Auestad, 70, of 209 W. 10th St., Vinton, a former resident of Newton, were held recently at the Wesley United Methodist Church at Vinton.
The Rev. Harold Wagner and the Rev. Ira Williams conducted services. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Madrid.
Campbell-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Hazel; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Janice) Erling of Rock Island, Ill.; a son, David of Moline, Ill.; five sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Childers of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. J. W. (Irene) Stock of West Des Moines, Mrs. Arley (Audrey) Thompson of Kensett, Mrs. Alvin (Marilyn) Diest of Des Moines and Mrs. Leo (Nancy) Cerfogli of Ankeny; a brother, Warren of Berwick; and a grandson.
Mr. Auestad, a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton, had been a labor and track foreman with the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member of the George G. Luckey Post of the American Legion of Vinton.
The son of Andrew Oliver and Della Mae Newman Auestad, he was born May 7, 1907 in Boone County.
He was married to Hazel May Scott June 2, 1940 in Des Moines.
