Howard L. “Pete” Schrader, 90, of Newton died on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Heritage Manor Care Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Website.

Those left to honor Howard's memory are his Son: Garrold (Cindy) of Newton; his daughters, Janet (Eldon) Kephart of Brooklyn, Susan (Craig) Steinman of Wasilla, Alaska, Phyllis (Steve) Parsons of Newton, and Deanna (Erick) Mettler of Des Moines; his daughter-in-law, Sherry Schrader-Braunschweig; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, his brother, Virgil (Donna) Schrader of Columbia; his three sisters, Zelma Beebout of Columbia, Stella Clark of Knoxville, and Evelyn Bachman of Knoxville; his two brothers-in-law, Sam McReynolds of Des Moines and Roy Loney of Knoxville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma in 2008; sons, Roger, and two sons in infancy; grandsons, Marc, and Donnie; brother, Harry James; sisters, Mildred DeMoss, Margaret McReynolds, and Ruth Shives Loney.

Howard served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II.

Howard was a machinist for 30+ years at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1975. After retiring from the Maytag Company he worked for Maples Chevrolet.

Howard was a Life Member of the VFW Post 1655. He enjoyed his family, gardening, playing cards, dominoes, traveling to see family, mowing over Wilma’s flowers, and he was an avid hunter in his younger years.
