Mrs. Rebecca Butin died last evening at 7:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lydia Scarborough, on North Race Street. She had been ill for several weeks and her death was no surprise but came as a relief from severe suffering.

Mrs. Butin’s maiden name was Lyman. She was born in New York State November 9, 1822. She afterward moved to Ohio and to Burlington, Iowa, in 1840, coming to Jasper County in 1852. She was married at the age of 17 to A. B. Butin. They had four children, two of whom died in infancy. Those remaining are Jannes Butin who lives near Galesburg, and Mrs. Scarborough, with whom the deceased had lived since the death of Mr. Butin some ten years ago.

Mrs. Butin had for many years been a faithful member of the Methodist Protestant Church. She passed away firm in the faith that had sustained her hope of finding a home with loved ones gone before.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at eleven o’clock at the McKinney School house in Elk Creek Township, near the old home of the deceased. The party will leave the home in this city about eight o’clock. Rev. D. R. Martin, pastor of the Newton Circuit of the M. E. Church will conduct the services.
