STEPHEN HERWEHE--After a comparatively brief illness Stephen Herwehe died at the Colfax Sanitorium last Friday morning, Sept. 28, 1928. He was taken seriously ill some six weeks ago and growing gradually worse, he was taken to the Sanitorium at Colfax for treatment, but the complications of his case were so great that he succumbed. Everthing that a devoted wife and children, brothers, sisters, father and friends could do to lighten his suffering proved of no avail and he passed away, saying before he went that his way was paved clear through and that he was ready to leave this world of suffering. Mr. Herwehe was born near Monroe, Nov. 22, 1882 and at the time of his death was 45. He was married to Miss Emma Geddis, Sept. 7, 1904, and to this union four children were born; Francis Lorraine of Newton; Adam Lea; Ruby Isabel and Irene Norma. He is survived by his widow and the four children, his father, Adam Herwehe, five brothers and four sisters; Jacob Herwehe, Mrs. Emma McCauley, Mrs. Rose Oldham, all of Monroe; Mrs. Sarah Tool, Newton; Frederick Herwehe, Des Moines, Earl Herwehe and Mrs. Elmina Tice of Monroe, Ernest Herwehe of Cappo, Calif., and Howard Herwehe of Monroe. His sister Verny Herwehe and his mother preceded him in death three years ago. Mr. Herwehe was a member of the Monroe Methodist Episcopal church at the time of his demise and was baptized at Reasnor August 23, 1895. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon the Rev. A.D. Mohr of the Baptist church officiating. The edifice was filled with sorrowful relatives and friends. The remains were interred in the Monroe cemetery. Music was furnished by a male quartet consisting of Hubert Burchinal, Horace, Cash, Carl Ammer and Guy Wilson with Mrs. Carl Ammer at the piano. The familiar hymns sung were "Rock of Ages," "My Anchor Holds, " and "Goving Down the Valley". The pallbearers were Grover Herwehe, Merle Herwehe, Adam Kling, Albert Kling, Henry Marks, and Pete Weideman.
