Meredith Child
The Newton Daily Herald, Wednesday, January 21, 1903, Page 1, Column 5
We have just learned that last Friday the little daughter of Henry Meredith, living near Lynnville, was poisoned from eating candy, which was bought in town, and died in an hour and a half from the time she was taken sick. The end came before she was reached by the doctors. We have no further particulars.
Is it possible that much of the candy these days has poison in it? The murder case at Aledo, Ill., which attracted widespread attention, may have grown out of just such a circumstance, although nearly every one believes that the accused girl in that case was guilty.

Page 1, Column 3Coroner S. M. Robinson went to Sully yesterday afternoon to investigate the death of H. C. Meredith’s little daughter, who died a week ago today from poison, as it was then supposed contained in cheap colored candy.
It seems that there was some medicine in the house which other members of the family had been taking which contained strychnine, one-sixteenth of a grain per tablet. The small envelope containing this was found on the floor and it was decided that the child had eaten some of the tablets. No inquest was held.
