Marian Pauline (Purman) Smith

Smith, Marian Pauline (Purman), September 12, 1932 - January 24, 2013. Visitation 2-4:00pm Sunday, Broadway Mortuary. Funeral service 10:00am, Monday, West Side Christian Church.

Resident of the Wichita Presbyterian Manor, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 due to complications after a fall. She was born in Siota Township close to Good Hope, IL on September 12, 1932, born to Harry and Myrtle Ruth Purman. She attended Bardolph Community High School in Bardoph, IL and graduated from beauty school in Galesburg, IL.

She married Roland Edward Smith on October 5, 1951. She worked as a beautician before moving to Newton, IA in 1953. She and Roland later moved to Wichita, KS in 1955. After being a wonderful stay-at-home mom, she was employed by Paul Brooker Sales as an office clerk from 1974 to when she retired in 1998 after 24 years of service. During retirement, Pauline enjoyed traveling to Branson, cruising in Alaska, Southern Gospel music, her vast doll collection, and spoiling her many grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Purman, infant brother, Harry, and her sister, Martha Cary. She is survived by her husband, Roland of 61 years; 3 brothers, Richard Purman, Harvey Purman, and Rex Purman; and 3 sisters, Margaret Johnson, Judy Tracy, and Bonnie Swanson; her children, Cindi Ubben (David) of Wichita, Pamela Sallee (Doug) of Milford, Kansas, Annette Weakley (James) of Wichita, Paul Smith (Penny) of Iowa City, IA, and Penny Staats of Paola, KS; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
