FUNERAL FOR MRS. HIXON (sic) WAS HELD AT HIXON GROVE CHAPEL.

MRS. HIXON DIED AT HOME OF DAUGHTER IN DES MOINES.

Phebe Likins was born Nov. 29th, 1833, in Virginia and died January 9th, 1915 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minta Ford, in Des Moines at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 11 days.
At the age of four years she moved with her parents to Greenfield, Indiana, where she lived about sixteen years, when she, with her parents, moved to Jasper county, where she was married in 1854 to Wm. Hixson.
To this union were born twelve children, three of whom died in infancy. The husband died May 31st, 1888. The oldest son, Z.T. Hixson died Dec. 9th, 1909. Those still living are Mrs. Mary McKinley of Cherryvale, Kans.; Mrs. Vena Little of Chickasha, Okla.; Mrs. Ruth Merryfield of Mt. Hope, Kansas; Mrs. Alice Hodges of Erie, Kansas; Mrs. Dora Moyer of Chanute, Kansas; Mrs. Minta Ford of Des Moines; Mrs. Ellen Atwood and Prof. L. L. Hixson, both of Newton.
The deceased also leaves 35 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. It was possible for only a few of the children to be at the funeral. Mrs. Little, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. Atwood and the only son, Prof. Hixson. Relatives from a distance were Elmer Little of Elreno, Okla.; Amzi Hixson of Atlantic; Ed Ford, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thomas and H. D. Meek of Des Moines; Mrs. Fern Fogleman of Grinnell; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Meek and daughter of Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Adam Hixson of Reasnor and G. E. Likens (sic) of Orient.
The grandchildren were pall bearers.
Services were conducted by Rev. E. S. Brown at Hixson Grove chapel, he being a former pastor of that church and an old friend of the family. Burial was at Hixson Grove cemetery beside her husband.
Her Christian life began in girlhood. She was a charter member of the Hixson Grove Methodist Protestant church. In 1875 she transferred her letter to the First M. E. church at Newton, of which she had been a consistent member until death.
She has been almost a shut-in for a number of years, bearing her affliction with true Christian fortitude.
