Bert Bennett Dies

Bert Bennett, former Newton resident, died early this morning at the home of a son in
Cohoes, N.Y., following a lingering illness. Funeral arrangements are pending, but they are scheduled to be held in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Wednesday Afternoon, October 17, 1951, Page 1 column 4.

Services Monday For B. L. Bennett At Newton Church

Funeral service for Bert L. Bennett, 66, Newton resident who died Wednesday at the home of a son, Robert, in Cohoes, N.Y., will be held here Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Christian church.

Officiating will be Rev. John R. Binkley Jr., church pastor, and burial will be in Newton Union cemetery. Toland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The body will arrive here Saturday night and will lie in state at the Bennett home, 1021 North Fifth avenue East from Sunday morning until time for the services Monday.

Mr. Bennett was in Cohoes about four months and died as the result of a lingering illness. Born at Albia to Tryon and Jane Bennett, he lived here many years and was employed for 26 years at the Maytag company.

Survivors include his widow, Nellie; three children, Harold and Robert of Cohoes, N.Y., and Mrs. Mildred Harter of Oskaloosa; his aged mother, Mrs. Jane Bennett of Keokuk; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Harry of Des Moines and Clarence of harvey. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Friday Afternoon, October 19, 1951, Page 1, column 4

Hold Services Here For Bert L. Bennett

Funeral services for Bert L. Bennett, 66, who died Wednesday in New York, were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon in the First Christian church here. Rev. John Binkley officiated, and the Toland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Newton Union cemetery.

Music was furnished by Leonard James, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Hugh Moore, organist. The songs were "Good Night and Good Mornign" and "Just Outside the Door."

Pallbearers were Fred Ryerley, Raymond Ritzhaupt, Axel Oliver, Dick Mosby, Glenn Ryan and John Bullington. In charge of flowers were Mrs. James Dimon; Mrs. Axel Oliver, Mrs. Fred Byerley and Mrs. Fred Kohloff.~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Monday Afternoon, October 22, 1951, Page 1, column 7
