Visitation: The family will greet friends from 10-11 A.M., Thursday, January 03, 2013 at the funeral home.

Funeral Service: 11 A.M., Thursday, January 03, 2013 at the funeral home.

Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Thursday, January 03, 2013 at Newton Union Cemetery.

Walter, the son of Carl “Pete” and Lydia (Short) Machin, was born on April 17, 1915 in rural Monroe, Iowa. He was united in marriage with Beula Smith on July 2, 1944 in Newton. They lived in Marshall County from 1946-1960, when they moved back to Jasper County. Walter was a farmer and also worked in the factory at the Maytag Company and at Midwest Manufacturing, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed gardening, calling square dances, and building things out of wood including birdhouses, step stools, and benches. Those left to honor Walter’s memory are his 3 sons, Dick (Darlene) Machin of Newton, Lloyd (Dianna) Machin of Newton, and Denny Machin of Kellogg; 2 daughters, Marie Hoffman of Newton and Lucinda Hollingshead of Ogden; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beula Machin in 1989; son, Bruce Machin; daughter, Mary Machin Versteegh; granddaughter, Elaina Machin; and his 5 siblings.
