Pauline Hackathorn, 75, of Newton passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services for Pauline will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are being designated in Pauline’s name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home.

Edith Pauline, the daughter of Orville M. Springer and Velma Irene (Main) Springer, was born July 17, 1937, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School Class of 1955. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Pauline Hackathorn, 75, of Newton, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services for Pauline will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 21st at the First Baptist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are being designated in Pauline's name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home.

Edith Pauline, the daughter of Orville M. Springer and Velma Irene (Main) Springer, was born July 17, 1937, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, class of 1955.

On March 14, 1959, Pauline was united in marriage with Andrew E. Hackathorn in Unionville, Missouri. A lifelong resident of the Jasper County area, she had lived in Newton since 1956. She worked as an Office Clerk at the Parsons Company, and in 1979 went to work at Baskin Robbins. She had also worked for Younkers, First Newton National Bank and Stage. She devoted her life to her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was the office clerk, a Sunday School and Bible school teacher, a church hostess and choir member. She was also a member of RSVP. Pauline was a kind and warm hearted lady and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor Pauline's memory include her son Todd Hackathorn (Debra) of Newton; her daughter Debra Vawter of Newton; her step-sons: Ronald Hackathorn of Iowa City and Kevin Hackathorn (Patty) of Oxford; her seven grandchildren, Jennifer Dawson, Brittany Van Zee, Bailey Hackathorn, Bret Hackathorn, Brian Hackathorn, Erin Hackathorn and Kelly McDonald; her five great grandchildren, Brody Van Zee, Brielle Van Zee, Henry McDonald, Lars Hackathorn and Ella Hackathorn; her brother, Charles Springer of Newton; and her special friend and companion, Jack Streeter of Newton; many nieces and nephews and her many friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Andy on February 15, 1998; a daughter in infancy; and her brothers, Donald and Floyd. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home Website, Newton, Iowa.
