Walter J. Kane Dies of Heart Attack Tuesday
Walter J. Kane, 68, of 510 South Eleventh avenue West, died Tuesday evening after suffering a heart attack while he was in his garage.
He is survived by his wife, Letha; two sister, Mrs. B. J. Uphus of St. Cloud, Minn., and Mrs. Charles Probasco of Clearwater, Fla.; and one brother, Donald T. Kane of Staten Island, N.Y.
A rosary will be said Thursday at 7:45 p.m. in the Toland Funeral home. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic church conducted by Father J. J. Janssen. Burial will be in Colfax cemetery.
Mr. Kane was born near Valeria on April 27, 1887. He was the son of Thomas and Margaret Kane. On Sept. 24, 1825, he married the former Letha Decker in Newton.
Mr. Kane had lived all his life in Jasper county and moved into Newton 32 years ago. He was a retired assembler for the Maytag company. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 4, 1956, page 1.

Walter J. Kane’s Rites Held TodayFuneral services for Walter J. Kane, 68, who died Wednesday, were held today at the Sacred Heart Catholic church conducted by Father James Janesen.
A rosary was said Thursday evening at the Toland Funeral home. Burial was in Colfax cemetery.
Pallbearers for Mr. Kane were Bernard Martin, Simon Zwiefelhofer, Scott Bicknll, Howard Herbold, Fred Wheeler, and Arthur Morgan.
Flowers were handled by Mrs. Bernard Martin, Mrs. Matt Sladek, and Mrs. Forrest Warner.
