Death of John W. Houck.

Died. – At his residence, corner of North Farmer and North Streets, in Newton yesterday (Tuesday) April 12, 1904, John W. Houck, aged 76 years, 8 months and 15 days.

Mr. Houck was a straight-forward, honest and well known man, and has been a quiet patient sufferer for many years. Death to him was a release from pain.

He was born in Knox Co., Ohio, August 4, 1827. He came to Marengo, Iowa, in 1855, and to Newton in 1862.

He was married to Miss Mary Jennings in1856. No children was born to this union, but many friends and acquaintances will kindly remember him. At the time of going to press the time of his funeral had not been fixed, but it will probably be held tomorrow. ~ Newton Journal, April 13, 1904.

Note: He is buried in Newton Union Cemetery.

John W. Houck, whose death yesterday noon was announced in the News last evening, was born in Knox County, Ohio, August 4, 1827. He came to Iowa in 1855, living at Marengo. In 1862 he came to this city. His marriage to Miss Mary Jennings occurred in 1856.

Mr. Houck was a man of very quiet disposition and was respected by a large number of friends. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at the residence, Rev. E. F. Leake of the Christian Church having charge of the service.
