Mrs. Jesse Kilgore died at her home in west Newton, Tuesday, April 30, 1901, at an early hour, after weary weeks of suffering, her ailment being cancer of the liver, a post mortem examination confirming the opinion of the physicians.

The maiden name of the deceased was Elvira J. Ellis and she was born in New York in 1841. She came to Iowa with her parents when about 20 years of age, settling in Johnson County. She was there married to Jesse Kilgore in 1870. The afterward came to Jasper County and had for about 25 years made this county their home. Mr. Kilgore and four children survive. The children are: Orville, Charles and Edith Kilgore and Mrs. Ethel Boyd.

Deceased was a woman of good ability and full of energy. Her life had been one of activity and strong endeavor to make her home a pleasant place for her loved ones. She was greatly beloved in the home circle and by all who knew her and will be greatly missed in the days that are to come. But life loses many of its attractions when filled with such keen suffering and while Mother will be missed, yet there is comfort in the thought that she is at rest in the heavenly home where sorrow and suffering do not enter in.

The funeral occurred this afternoon at 10 o’clock* at the home, services being conducted by Rev. C. K. Cornell of the Christian Church.
