Dennis Wayne Taylor, the son of Walter Edward and Alice Mary (Johnson) Taylor, was born May 19, 1948, in Newton, Iowa. Dennis graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1966.

On Aug. 19, 2000, Dennis was united in marriage with Jane (Hopkins) Swihart at Rock Creek. Dennis was a longtime tool and die man, working for the Maytag Company, H & H, and Montezuma Manufacturing. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, gardening, traveling, Chevy automobiles and being a grandpa. Dennis was a member of the Newton Moose Lodge.

Dennis died on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 64 years old. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward.

Those left to honor Dennis’ memory include his wife, Jane of Rock Creek; his daughters, Rhonda Taylor of State Center, Iowa and Pamela (Chadd) Mapes of Newton; his sons, Michael (Heather) Taylor of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Adam (Jennifer) Swihart of Newton; his grandchildren, Tanner Auten, Ethan Swihart, Connor Swihart, Brady Swihart; his sisters, Karen Taylor (Richard Martin) of Martinsdale, Iowa and Mary (Frank) Dawson of Newton; his brother, Allen Taylor of Sully; his large extended family and his many friends.

A time celebrating Dennis’ life will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Newton Moose Lodge. The family will be present at the time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Dennis’ name and sent to or left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
